Wow, it's hot and humid. I haven't run in quite a while. I was in Puerto Rico last week and hoped to run while I was attending a search and rescue conference but I didn't get out. Today, however, my friend asked if I wanted to go out and run a few miles before we started our day. I was glad she asked. Depsite the heat and humidity the run felt good. Now if I can keep the momentum going. Activity

I ran with a colleague from our computer support center in West Virginia today. No, I didn't run in West Virginia, the support person is from West Virginia. It was hot and we were expecting storms today so we headed out early in the hopes of getting the run in without incident. While I did work up a good sweat, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I was a little sore which I attribute to not stretching like I should before and after a run. Today the challenge is to not eat all sorts of junk! Activity

We are experiencing a pretty brutal heat wave in New York. I decided to get out early and try and run 6 miles. Well, my 6 miles turned into only 3 miles. At least I got out and ran. I may take it easy on Tuesday just because the weather is going to be even hotter! Activity

I am in Houston attending the Chamber of Shipping of America safety awards lunch. I was lucky enough to get out of the hotel (Marriott West Loop near the Galleria Mall). I only ran a 5K out and back but enjoyed the run and found sidewalks and a running friendly area. I could, however, do without the humidity! It was already quite hot and humid when I headed out. Lots of wind as well. Activity

Today kicked off Fleet Week in New York City. There aren't as many ships in 2009 but the importance is just as high. The weather was nice for a run and it was enjoyable to dodge tourists running up the Hudson as warships from the United States and Canada steamed by. I saw on the NYC Marathon site that the charities will begin accepting applications in June. I am going to try and run for a charity that supports a firefighter that died on September 11, 2001. All in all my run today felt pretty good. Activity

I can’t get over how perfect today was for a run. With only a slight breeze coming off the Hudson I headed up the river (originally known as the North River), made my way through the throngs of tourists, until I was heading up towards Canal Street. The crowds thinned out as I headed uptown. The weather was cool enough for me to wear a long sleeve shirt and I laughed and waved at a guy passing me wearing the same NYC Marathon shirt. Activity

I tried to get into the Boston Marathon as a member of Coast Guard. Unfortunately there were only 10 places for 25 applicants. I didn't get in the lottery. My friend Beth did get into the lottery. Beth and I run together many days but haven't been training for a marathon. I know she did increase her training. More importantly I know she has been dealing with the issues that surround the death of a parent and it has taken its toll on her. She was really excited about this run and, I am proud to day, she finished Boston in 5 hours, 1 minute, 10 seconds. I ran with Beth a little today. I wasn't in Boston nor was I running 26.2 miles. Instead I was running along one of our usual routes in New York. It was windy and quiet, not crowded and perfect for reflecting on why we run and how it makes us feel. I am proud of my friend and proud to call her friend. Congratulations Beth! Activity

Well today I didn't have much time for a long run so I tried to make this something of a speed workout. I don't know how much speed I had but it was little faster than previous runs of the same distance. I feel pretty go though. Activity

Well today is the first day of a return to a more active running schedule. I say that today, and tomorrow I have a lunch meeting. I will have to make time to get my run done in the morning. I am considering another run at the NYC marathon this year. I may sign up to run for a charity if I think I can muster the necessary support. Fingers crossed I get out again tomorrow! Activity

Well today I was lucky enough to run with a U.S. Park Police officer who guards our building. Clyde and I ran about 5 miles up the East River. The weather was perfect. Lots of bright sunshine and a hint of a breeze coming off the river. No crowds, a few Chinese fishermen along the promedade, and few tourists. It felt good to run with someone new. Now I just need to run off the Easter dinner I ate! Activity

Well I have known for a few days now that I didn't get into the Boston Marathon. I was a little saddened by not getting an opportunity to represent the Coast Guard in this great race. Hopefully I can get an entry next year. What this does, however, is spark my interest in running New York again. This time, however, I may run for a charity. Activity

Today was nice looking, but the wind cut up the Hudson and made it much cooler than it looked. I am so ready for warmer weather. My run today was more difficult that usual. I don't know if it is because I had a little too much to eat before heading out or if I was just tired. There was lots of excitement in the city today because of an explosion near Times Square at a recruiting station. Of course security was horrible at our building. Fortunately nobody knows where we are! Activity

Whew. Today is Wednesday and despite a horrible wind blowing from the west I headed out to enjoy some warmer weather in New York. Today I ran up the East River. My run back down to the building wasn't bad until I reached the lower Manhattan heliport and I was hit with a massive headwind. I also received an email today alerting me to the fact I am in the running to compete in the Boston Marathon! Yea! Activity

I was happy to see crocus bulbs poking through the ground as I ran up along the Hudson river today. We have had some up and down weather ranging from bitterly cold to balmy warm. It has been weird. Today was a bit cool and breezy but good enough for a nice run. It won't be long and spring will be here! Activity
